History
Ray saw that the legal field was being left behind by the changes taking place in the entertainment media and technology industries. New issues were being raised by the emerging digital world -- and a recession -- and new business models and fresh approaches to "old media" were being created, requiring lawyers who "get" the space and could provide counsel that is not just sophisticated, but also efficient, practical, sensitive, creative, business friendly,personalized and progressive.
Ray spent 7 years associated with the international law firm of Hughes Hubbard and Reed LLP, where he represented a mostly Fortune 100 client base in a diverse array of matters. After leaving Hughes Hubbard and prior to starting the javdan firm, Ray served Of Counsel to Freud Communications (US).
Ray is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. He is a member of the New York County, New York City, and New York State Bar Associations (Sections on Art, Entertainment & Sports Law; Commercial and Federal Litigation; Media and Communications Law), and the Copyright Society USA. Ray has performed pro-bono legal work with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and is active in numerous charities and community events. Ray is especially proud to serve on the Board of Directors of Hip Hop Public Health, which uses music to promote healthy eating and physical activity to children. HHPH recently released an album in association with the Partnership For A Healthier America, entitled "Songs for a Healthier America".

Ray grew up in the beautiful if small town of Goshen, in the Hudson Valley area of New York. He is a proud graduate of the Tuxedo Park School, Choate Rosemary Hall, the University of Rochester, and Fordham Law School. While his practice is primarily based in NY, he frequently travels to Los Angeles for business, family and good weather. He lives in the West Village of Manhattan.
